Calls for Hips to be expanded further
15-Jan-08
FirstRungNow is calling for more information to be included in Home information packs (Hips).
The firm believes that Hips are beneficial to the market, particularly first-time buyers (FTBs), but is confident that they are not being used to their full potential.
With this in mind, the company is calling for more to be included in the packs so that buyers really begin to see the benefits.
"I would like to see more people put more information in and not just the bare minimum. In particular, the home condition report, which isn't compulsory, is a very useful addition to the Home information pack for first-time buyers," said Helen Adams, managing director of FirstRungNow.
"Also, any information related to bills and council tax; the outlays and costs, that can also help the first-time buyer budget.
"They [FTBs] really need to know what they are getting in to and they won't have to have the cost associated with buying them because they are not selling," she continued.
Hips became a mandatory part of the home-selling process for all properties in England and Wales in December.
